POSITION SUMMARY

The Customs & Trade Analyst (CA) is responsible for a variety of MPC s Customs & International Trade compliance activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsibilities include analysis and understanding of Customs & International Trade laws and regulations; performing & enhancing effective control activities to ensure compliance with Customs & International Trade laws regulations, and voluntary initiatives.
  • Working routinely with governmental entities as well as MPC personnel in various organizations (including but not limited to Refining, Clean Products, Global Feedstocks, Auditing, Accounting, Corporate Security, Law and Supply Chain) with respect to compliance requirements.
  • The CA routinely communicates with MPC s foreign trade zone coordinators, U.S. and foreign authorities, and MPC s external Customs Brokers.
  • The successful candidate must have the ability to travel occasionally to MPC refineries and industry events/meetings on an as- needed basis.
  • The work is dynamic, fast-paced, and requires a commitment to teamwork and a proactive, continuous improvement mindset.
  • Work product must be timely and accurate. Microsoft Office proficiency (primarily Excel and Word) is required. An understanding of SAP, mainframe, web-based, and server-based applications is a plus. Additional training on specific applications used by Tax will be provided.
  • Coordinates Customs projects as assigned and engages in cross-organizational communications with other organizations within to accomplish project objectives; collaborates with organization and business partner personnel to facilitate execution of all project work assigned to the organization through assignment of priorities, and regular reporting of project status/activity; facilitates development and execution of a project communication plan identifying all internal/external stakeholders, evaluating stakeholder influence, and reporting on overall project performance.
  • Examines, verifies, computes, maintains and summarizes various documents and statistics to determine accuracy of computed taxes and compliance with Customs & International Trade requirements.
  • Ensures timely and accurate value reconciliation with U.S. Customs; analyzes import data and works with MPC s foreign trade zone coordinators and brokers to finalize value.
  • Keeps abreast of relevant Customs & International Trade and tax rules and regulations; researches developments and maintains appropriate tax decision rules in accordance with legislative changes.
  • Conducts research of Customs & tax subjects of special interest.
  • Represents the company in meetings with counterparties and other third-party stakeholders; and develops cooperative partnerships with counterparties and other third-party stakeholders.
  • Assists with or coordinates filings of reports.
  • Participates in relevant seminars & training opportunities as assigned.
  • Works on special projects as assigned by Tax Management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor s degree is required:
    Major Discipline:
    Accounting/Business/Supply Chain Management/ Paralegal Studies
  • A minimum of two (2) years of accounting, supply chain, tax, or compliance/regulatory/audit experience is preferred. Customs and/or International Trade experience is a plus.
